Here is the program for the next English event at New World English for Sunday, March 13, 2016. This will be the first episode of a longer series of Interview Night events. Interview Topic 1:

The History, Present and Future of Kitakyushu City北九州市の歴史、現在と未来 　Akiko Isoda　磯田　章子

磯田さんは、日本の文化や歴史についての事を英語で日本全国で説明するツアーガイドのお仕事をされています。さらに、北九州市の世界的に有名な環境保護ﾌﾟﾛｼﾞｪｸﾄを視察しに世界中から来られる環境保護に関する専門家の方々にツアーをされています。

ｲﾝﾀﾋﾞｭｰﾅｲﾄでは、磯田さんより、どのように北九州市が非常に工業化され汚染された街から世界的に有名な最先端の環境保護ﾌﾟﾛｼﾞｪｸﾄと技術を持った街に変化したのか、についてお話しいただきます。さらに、磯田さんも一緒にグループで、一つ、「北九州市の良いところは何か。」二つ、「どのように５０年後の北九州市を描くか。」の二つの質問について考えたいと思います。

磯田さんのスペシャルゲストはTakashi Ikeda 池田隆史さんです。北九州市の職員でいらっしゃる池田さんより、北九州市の高度で国際的にも名高いエコテクノロジーについてお話いただきたいと思います。

Interview Topic 2:

Children with Leukemia白血病の子供たち 　Dr. Yuko Honda　本田　裕子

ほんだゆうこ先生は福岡の経験豊かなお医者様です。彼女は小児白血病・小児がん分野の小児血液専門医です。ｲﾝﾀﾋﾞｭｰﾅｲﾄでは、ほんだ先生に医療的な側面・人間的な側面から子供たちのがんと向き合われてきた経験をお話しいただきます。特に、死に直面している子供たちを治療している経験から、どのように彼女の中で生と死というものを理解されているのかを私たちと共有していただきます。

本田先生のｽﾍﾟｼｬﾙゲストはDr. Mari Harada 原田真理先生です。小児科医である原田先生より、子供たちのご両親とのコミュニケーションの難しさをお話いただきたいと思います。

INTERVIEW NIGHT PROGRAM

ｲﾝﾀﾋﾞｭｰﾅｲﾄは観客ﾒﾝﾊﾞｰも質問したりﾄﾏｽ先生がするｲﾝﾀﾋﾞｭｰに参加できる対話式のｲﾍﾞﾝﾄです。

もしくは観客ﾒﾝﾊﾞｰの方々は座って皆さんのｲﾝﾀﾋﾞｭｰを聴いて楽しんでいただくだけでも構いません。

ｲﾝﾀﾋﾞｭｰはすべて英語で行われる英会話ｶﾝﾊﾞｾﾞｲｼｮﾝｲﾍﾞﾝﾄです。しかしながら、もし英語での質問がどうしても難しい場合は日本語で質問していただくこともできます。

二つのｲﾝﾀﾋﾞｭｰ終了後は、直接ｲﾝﾀﾋﾞｭｰｱｰの方々にお話しいただいたり、ほかの観客ﾒﾝﾊﾞｰの方々やﾈｲﾃｨﾌﾞｽﾋﾟｰｶｰと交流していただく英会話ｶﾝﾊﾞｾﾞｲｼｮﾝﾊﾟｰﾃｨを楽しみます。

Interview night is an English conversation event at New World English which features interesting and accomplished guest speakers who will be interviewed by Thomas-sensei and the audience.

Interview Topic 1:

The History, Present and Future of Kitakyushu City Akiko Isoda

Ms. Isoda is a professional tour guide who gives tours in English all around Japan on the topics of Japanese culture and history. Furthermore, she has given tours to environmental specialists from around the world who came to Kitakyushu to study its world famous ecological projects. For interview night, Ms. Isoda will talk about how Kitakyushu transformed from being a highly industrialized and polluted city to becoming a city world renowned for its cutting edge ecological projects and technology. Furthermore, as a group, together with Ms. Isoda, we will reflect on 2 questions: firstly, “What are positive features of Kitakyushu which make it an excellent city to live in, and secondly, “how do you envision the future Kitakyushu 50 years in the future?”

Isoda-san’s special guest will be: Takashi Ikeda. He is a Kitakyushu city officer and he will talk about Kitakyushu’s advanced and internationally distinguish Eco-technology.

Interview Topic 2:

Children with Leukemia Dr. Yuko Honda

Dr. Honda is an experienced medical doctor in Fukuoka. She is a pediatrician and hematologist who specializes in childhood Leukemia and cancer. For interview night, Dr. Honda will provide us with a medical and human account of her experiences of treating children with cancer. Especially, she will share her experiences of caring for dying children and how this experience has defined her understanding of life and death.

Dr. Honda’s special guest will be Dr. Mari Harada. She is a pediatrician and she will talk about the challenges of communicating with child patients.

INTERVIEW NIGHT PROGRAM

Interview Night is an interactive event where audience members are welcome to ask questions and participate in the interview which will conducted by Thomas Mallinos, or audience members can just sit quietly and enjoy the interview.

The interview will be done in English as this is an English conversation event, however, audience members may ask a question in Japanese if it is difficult for them to ask the question in English.

Once the 2 interviews are over, we will have an English conversation party where you can mingle and meet with other audience members as well as native English speakers or speak directly to the interviewees.
